From Jaffa – Jaffa museum

The artworks for this exhibition were created with a special view towards Jaffa’s history, icons, architecture, culture, and more. For my artwork, I was inspired by the story of the first oranges delivery departing from Jaffa port in 1920. Since the state of Israel had not yet been established, it wasn’t clear what to write on the oranges…so the spontaneous decision was, “Made in Jaffa.” This “oranges story” reflects the story of the city and its people – identity mix, old and new, East and West, entity and identity. The statue which I used for my artwork I found at a Jaffa flea market and stuck original Jaffa stickers onto it. Through this process, I created a transformation of the figure, making it a brand, while combining old and modern, and manipulating it to bring new meanings.
